FZC Marzahn - Berlin Basketball Identity
06. February 2025
Logo and jersey design created for a friend’s Berlin-based basketball team, featuring a modern reinterpretation of the iconic Berlin Bear as part of the team identity.
Overview
The project involved developing a visual identity for a friend’s local basketball team in Berlin. The main requirement was to integrate the Berlin Bear, derived from the city’s historic coat of arms, into the logo while maintaining a clean, sporty, and bold aesthetic. Several logo concepts and color directions were designed in Adobe Illustrator, and after internal feedback, one final version was selected. The chosen logo was then adapted for use on the team’s jerseys and applied across multiple design drafts before production.
Logo Design
The final logo merges the silhouette of the Berlin Bear with the dynamic shape of a basketball. The typography complements the bear’s movement, giving the mark a sense of energy and direction typical for sports branding. The result is a clean, versatile emblem suitable for print, embroidery, and digital use.

Jersey Design
Multiple jersey versions were created, each exploring different placements of the bear emblem, number typography, and abstract motion patterns. The final design was selected for production, featuring a white base with black brush-style accents, creating a sharp, dynamic look. The jersey combines simplicity with movement, the clean white surface contrasts with expressive black curves that reference both the ball’s motion and Berlin’s raw urban character.

Next Steps
A 3D scene and animation are currently being developed to showcase the jersey in motion, using Cinema 4D with cloth simulation and Octane rendering. A planned photo shoot will later document the physical jersey and complete the visual presentation.
